Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the use of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach in secondary school mathematics courses and be examined the effect of this approach on student' mathematical achievements in this research. For this purpose in this study a mixed methodology study was used in which the qualitative and quantitative methods coexist in the research. Research has been conducted at three dıfferent state secondary school in Adana. Research's qualitive data, numerals, geometry and the maths lessons in which processed learning outcome and evalution issummed up for totally 22 hours by observing. After observations' end off, to support observations' datas semi-structured inserviews was made with 17 maths teacher. The results of the observation were analyzed by using the content analysis, percentage and frequenmcy values. The results from the interviews were included by direct quotations.activities based on the Realistic Mathematics Education approach at the seventh grade level have been developed by way of the findings obtained by completing the qualitative dimension of the research. Quantitative data of the study were obtained using the mathematical achievement test. In the study group with the researcher realistic mathematics education approach applied and a control group with a mathematics teacher were randomly selected. The experimental group was taught to geometry and achievements of assessment and learning domain by the RME approach while in the control group the existing teaching method was used. In the analysis of quantitative data, arithmetic mean and standar deviation independent sampla t- test, paired samples t-test were used to evaluate the data obtained from the pre and post tests. As a result, the traditional approach is often seen to be used in secondary school mathematics lessons. Finding from semi-structured interviews with teachers also support this end resuşt. The experimentel group students whose achievements were given, based on the RME approach, were found to be more successful in the mathematics achievement test than the control group students in which the current teaching method was applied. In this direction, trainers and preservice can be trained to prepare and implement lesson plans by the way of the mathematics education approach in the future studies, case studies can be prepared by organizing a new mathematics programme. Keyword: Realistic mathematics education, geomery and measurement, learning domain math success.
