Abstract (EN)
The study was conducted as a randomised controlled trial with the aim of determining the effect of motivational interviewing (MI) on health management self-efficacy and quality of life in pregnant women diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) The study was completed with 60 pregnant women at the obstetrics clinics of Kahramanmaraş Necip Fazıl City Hospital and Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Health Application and Research Hospital between 1 June 2024 and 30 June 2025. The study was conducted with one intervention group (n=30) and one control group (n=30). The pregnant women in the intervention group underwent four MI sessions, while the control group received routine care. Data collection utilised a Personal Information Form, the Self Rated Abilities For Health Practices Scale (SRAHP), and the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale (SF-36 QoL). Ethical committee approval, institutional permission, and written consent from participants were obtained for the study. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS 29 programme. The statistical significance level was set at p<0.05. No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of descriptive variables, SRAHP, SF-36 QoL total and subscale mean scores in the pre-intervention pre-test (p>0.05). After the MI, the mean scores of the intervention group's SRAHP total and all subdimensions, as well as the SF-36 QoL physical function, emotional role limitation, energy, mental health, social function, and general health perception subdimensions, were found to be statistically significantly higher than those of the control group (p<0.05). However, an increase was also observed in the physical role limitation and pain subdimensions in the intervention group, but this difference was not found to be statistically significant (p>0.05). It was concluded that MI is an effective method for increasing self-efficacy in health management and quality of life in pregnant women diagnosed with GDM.
