Ethnobotanical investigation in Gölyaka (Düzce)

This study was performed in order to determine the plants used by the local people in Gölyaka district of Düzce for various purposes and to obtain the ethnobotany of the region. In this study which covers the period between March 2019 and May 2020, it was aimed to reveal and record the local and scientific names of the plants used by the people living in this region and their ways of benefiting from these plants for 10 selected villages in Gölyaka. As a result of the research, 114 taxa belonging to 44 families have been determined. When the ethnobotanical usage areas of these plants identified in the region are examined by the local people, 67 of them are used for food, 64 of them are used for folk medicine, 24 of them are used for animal feed, 11 of them are used for other usages, 9 of them are ornamental, 4 of them are used for fuel, 2 of them are used for coloring and 2 of them are used for veterinary folk medicine purposes. The most commonly used plants belong to Asteraceae, Rosaceae, Fabaceae, Lamiaceae and Apiaceae families. It has been determined that 189 different local names are used for the plants diagnosed in Gölyaka, and the most commonly used approach in the traditional naming of these plants is by using the color features.
