There is an increasing interest and studying in image processing due to the developments incomputer hardwares and softwares. At the same time, studies for taking advantages of imageprocessing technique in daily life has started. The techniques of image processing provideinnovation and simplicity in medicine, security, manufacturing and in science.Image processing is the transformation of an image to digital format and processing incomputer.This article firstly touches upon methods of image processing and secondlydiscourse about the application area.Major research studies about the topic is included,however this article mainly focuses on obtaining digital data from 2D objects with imageprocessing.In the two applications of this study, images of a 2D object have been taken by a digitalcamera in order to obtain the surface data. In the other applications digital image and imagestaken from scanner have been used. These raster images? borderlines and borderline pixels?coordinates in the coordinate system (x,y) were obtained by a program that has been writtenin MATLAB software. Next step was obtaining the 2D objects computer model using theMASTERCAM software. Raster images were transformed to the ArtCAM Insignia Demosoftware, and vectorized. The computer model obtained with this method has been comparedwith the real dimension of the object.
