Abstract (EN)
Energy losses can have significant economic and environmental consequences. Energy losses raise the cost of energy, which economically reduces energy efficiency. Energy losses have the potential to raise greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental pollutants by causing excess energy production. In order to maximize energy efficiency and lessen environmental effects, it is crucial to reduce energy losses in power systems. In order to improve power systems' dependability, efficiency, and controllability, devices like STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) and FACTS (Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems) are crucial parts of the design. Static devices called FACTS devices are used in power systems to regulate voltage, current, and power flow. Typically, switching technologies based on thyristors are used to implement these devices. A kind of FACTS device called a STATCOM is used in power systems to regulate the power factor and voltage level.In this master's thesis, a voltage regulation simulation was performed via STATCOM in a 400 kV and 2*12 MVAr power system located in Kızıltepe district of Mardin province, which is a joint project of TUBITAK (Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council) Marmara Research Center Energy Institute and TEIAS (Turkish Electricity Transmission Joint Stock Company) 16th Regional Directorate. The busbar voltage of an energy transmission system from the distribution busbar was controlled by STATCOM despite the changes in the load. Firstly, the operating principle of STATCOM was investigated, then STATCOM was installed on the distribution bus of a power transmission system located in Kızıltepe district of Mardin province and its simulation was performed in the Matlab program. As a result of the simulation; It has been observed that STATCOM keeps the bus voltage at the desired values, provides fast reactive compensation against load changes and increases the voltage stability of the system.
