Recycled materials used in contemporary art

Ecology refers to the relationship between the environment and living things as a concept. After the Second World War, the rapidly developing industrial revolution brought along the pros and cons as well. There have been problems in the soil, in the water, in the air, even in the living things. It has become imperative to develop new strategies for problems such as consumption of natural resources, wastes, rapid population growth, air-water pollution, and the disappearance of living things. Under a sustainable environmental conception, art began to take place in the United States and Britain in the 1960s and 1980s to find solutions in this situation. The ways of regaining nature through art have been tried to be offered to the public, which is the consuming side of the producer sector. At this stage, waste materials have become the focus of attention of the artist. Picasso and Braque in the Cubism movement and the wastes that took place in the art have also been a subject of short training programs. The use of ready-made objects with pop art from the 1960s has a postmodern understanding. Many things that are seen in everyday life have found value in art. Leading artists such as Robert Morris, Richard Long, Michael Heizer, Walter de Maria, Carl Andre, Vito Acconci, Christo Javacheff, Andy Goldsworthy and Robert Smithson have played an important role in creating society's environmental awareness with the works they produce. We depend on our ability to provide a livable world for ourselves and the next generation, to create more careful designs, not to use resources conservatively, to develop a more sustainable production logic, and to obtain a strong consumer consciousness in the community. In the first part of our work, the concept of ecology, ecological art and ecological factors and ecological materials are examined. In the second chapter, historical development process of nature and art relation is given and projects and environmental landscapes in this subject are discussed. In the third part, waste materials are defined, their types, their place in Turkish art and public space works made with these materials are explained. In the fourth chapter, sustainability, eco-design concepts are defined and a sustainability example is presented from Arçelik. Finally, in the fifth chapter, the recycling is explained by explaining the symbols, history, precaution, benefits, steps, materials of recycling, and areas and artists using recycling. The results set out in this thesis lead to the fact that in order to preserve the natural equilibrium, all the people in many areas such as architecture, textile, jewelry design, photography, cinema, automotive, white goods need a responsible position
