Investigation of communication skills of security forces (Gaziantep province example)

Communication is one of the most essential elements of human life. A healthy and appropriate communication process creates healthier human relations and a healthy society. We are intertwined with the communication process at every stage of our daily life. The main purpose of the communication process is to ensure coordination by creating behavioral changes in people and improving human relations both in terms of individuals and groups. Therefore, no matter what profession it is, it is necessary to know the concept of communication well and to have regular communication with the society. This research is a descriptive study to examine the communication skills of security forces. The population of the research consists of the security force affiliated to Gaziantep Provincial Police Department, and the sample group consists of 332 individuals (323 Male, 9 Female) selected on a voluntary basis. "Communication Skills Evaluation Scale (IAS)" developed by Korkut (1996) was used as a data collection tool in the study. SPSS 22.0 program was used in the analysis of the data. T test and analysis of variance were used as statistical methods. It was determined that the data showed normal distribution, Independent Sample t test was used for comparison of paired groups and OneWay ANOVA analysis was used for comparison of multiple groups. The significance level was taken as p<0.05. As a result of the research, while it was stated that the communication skills of the security personnel in the study were generally positive, it was determined that the communication skills of the women were higher than the men. It has been observed that single security forces have higher communication skills than married ones, and college graduates have higher communication skills than others. It was determined that the communication skills of the participants working in motorcycle police teams were significantly higher than the participants working in other units. In addition, in terms of the variable of seniority in the profession, the level of evaluation of communication skills of the participants who worked for more than 20 years was significantly lower than the participants who worked for 1-5 and 11-15 years. It has been concluded that the communication skills evaluation levels of the participants who have been working for 6-10 years are significantly lower than the participants who have been working for 1-5 years.
