Information requirement of nurses regarding patient controlled analgesia

INFORMATION REQUIREMENT OF NURSES REGARDING PATIENT CONTROLLED ANALGESIA This research was carried out as descriptive in order to determine the information requirements of the patients regarding Patient Controlled Analgesia Aplication. The study was conducted with 79 nurses working in Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Oncology Training and Research Hospital between July 2013- August 2013. In the collection of data, questionnaire form composed following the literature review was used. As a result of the research, it was found out that average age of the nurses participating in the research was X=31.9 ± 5.6 (min:20, max:52). There was information requirement in terms of basic definitions regarding the Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) of the Nurses, preparation prior to the application, management of the problems that may occur as a result of the application. When the information positions of the patients regarding Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) were compared according to the age, educational status, working period, working position, pain management of the patient, no significant difference between the averages was found as a result of the statistical evaluations (p>0.05). As a result of the findings acquired from the research, it can be recommended that PCA method should be given in detail including the in-service trainings and nurses shall take part in the trainings.
