Abstract (EN)

Places of worship, which are important religious buildings with their directly and indirectly influence regarding human being and space, represent the tenet and divine service of their own belief system. Each of the temples of the three monotheistic religions, the synagogue, church and mosque, which are the subject matter of the research represented in this paper are functional spaces as much as symbolic spaces on its own. Thus the spatial images and symbols in their interiors bear the particular meaning of their represented belief system. Therewithal these three phenomenons represent intellectual, cultural and aesthetical common merit of humankind and express them with the same spatial images and symbols. This is why the interior design of these buildings should not only meet functional needs but also the expectations based on space atmosphere as well. A design in a balance between functional characteristics, visual properties and symbolic values is only possible, if conceptual dimension of spatial images and symbols, which give an identity to the place of worship, are to be known, and also with comprehension devoted to the belief as a whole. For this purpose prelude of the research has introduced the scope, significance and research method into being. The first chapter has states conceptual framework of the research. The second chapter has sought to examine the common concepts related to the spatial images and symbols of synagogue, church and mosque buildings logically and insightful, and then to develop an appropriate interpretation through phenomenological approach of that. Last chapter has commentated fairly obtained evident by means of spatial data and interior analysis and has made recommendations within revealing of resulting analysis.
