Struggles for Domination over the Trans-Caspian and Russian Occupation of the Turkmen Region The aim of this study; this study aims at analyzing studies carried out by the Russians who came to the region in the 19th century on the rich regions of Turkestan and the Trans-Caspian Turkmens, moreover it reveals the scientific and military studies carried out by the Russians along with thoughts of Russian historians and decision makers about the Turkmen, beside the events that took place in the region during the occupation and the effect of the subsequent occupation on the Turkmen society and culture. Some conclusions have been reached about the events such as the defeat of the Turkmens in "Göktepe" and the effect of the Russian domination process that rose immediately after. It is concluded that the Russians had some practices to establish dominance over the Turkmens. Beside benefiting from the previous studies on the subject, Russian resources that deserve to be considered were translated and studied. The study consists of two main parts and their sub-titles. In the first part, some activities of the Russians on the Turkmen lands before the occupation and the events that took place during the occupation of the region were tried to be revealed. In the same section, the geography of Turkmens and their personality traits were discussed. In the second part, information was given about the process experienced after the occupation of Tsarist Russia and the new system it brought to the region. In this section, the effort of the Russians to colonize the region economically for their own interests and to deprive the Turkmen from their own education and culture has been clarified.
