Analytical hierarchy process and quality function deployment in ready made wear industry: Bathrobe example

Clothing is one of the important ways of expressing personality. Consumers want clothes unique for themselves. In this age the mass production takes attention, so the products must to meet everyone?s expectations. For this purpose, the first problem of manufacturers production and marketing problem is to satisfy consumer?s different demands and ensuring continuity of mass production.In production process to make some analyzes and researches at the beginning of product development is very important for the consumer satisfaction. In this study, Analytical Hierarchy Process and Quality Function Deployment methods have been used to produce bathrobe with desired qualities, which have not been used in the production process of bathrobe up to now.In this study firstly, consumer wishes determined by face to face conversation, and than, priorities of the wishes has been determined by using the method of Analytical Hierarchy Process. These priorities have been used as the input parameters of Quality Function Deployment and with the addition of technical needs quality house has been constructed. The quality house includes expectations of consumer, technical production details and product alternatives included in a combination with soluble matrix. As a result of matrix, the alternative bathrobe production which satisfies consumer expectations, consumer criteria and technical requirement of consumers have been decided the most important areas to be addressed.In this study, it is determined that the color of the bathrobe has been the most important bathrobe property for consumers. And, finishing operations have been decided the most important technical need in the production of bathrobe. As a conclusion, this research has demonstrated that bathrobes which are produced from bamboo fiber are the most important alternative that meet the consumer expectations.
