Abstract (EN)
The city, which was called Nicomedia in antiquity, has the status of a city within the Bithynia region. There is no written reference to the city of Nicomedia before the eighth century BC. After this century, it is reached information that the people of Astakos live in the region.Today, this region, known as Izmit (Kocaeli), has a valuable status in the past with its geographical location and efficiency. The suitability of the city for maritime trade, the richness of its land, and the fact that it was close to Constantinople, which is now called Istanbul, were among the important elements in antiquity. We can see the value of this city, which has proven itself in many areas in addition to the features mentioned, when we follow the reconstruction processes after many invasions and earthquakes.Despite all the problems, the city was restructured each time and its loss could not be afforded. Although it was the most important supplier in Istanbul, it continued its existence under the Bithynia region until the Roman Empire and continued to be a province of Rome after this period. In this study, we want to shed light on a brief Antiquity Nicomedia by evaluating as much information as we can, including the oldest sources on the city of Nicomedia. Keywords: Nicomedia, Olbia, Astakos, Bithynia.
