Abstract (EN)
Aim:We aimed to investigate the effect of proximal femur proximal and forearm distractive pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) on bone mineral density (BMD) and some clinical and biochemical parameters in hemiplegic patients. Material and Method:Prospective and self-controlled study 30 hemiplegic patients diagnosed with hemiplegia referred to Dicle University Hospitals, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation clinic were included and randomly divided into two groups. In addition, the patients in the experimental group were subjected to an emphasized electromagnetic field (PEMF) for 6 weeks. Spasticity evaluation Modifiye Ashworth scale, motor development evaluation Brunnstrom scale, Functional evaluation Barthel Index and evaluation of ambulation potential Functional Ambulance Classification (FAS) were done. Results:When bone mineral densities of the control and experimental groups were taken into account after the treatment, an increase was observed in the femur trochanter, femur inter, femur total and forearm regions of the experimental group according to the control group. However, this increase was statistically significant only in the forearm total region. When Brunnstrom scale, Modifiye Ashworth Scale, FAS, Barthel Index parameters were compared within each group before and after treatment, significant improvement was observed in Brunnstrom stages, FAS, Barthel Index parameters in both groups (p <0,01). Modifiye Ashworth Scale, which assessed spasticity, showed no significant change in both groups. Conclusion:When the results are examined, it has been shown that PEMF can protect and improve bone mineral density in hemiplegic patients. In the future, there is a needfor PEMF to study the effects of long-term effects, prevention of osteoporotic fractures, daily living activities and quality of life. Key Words:.
