Abstract (EN)

This study was planned as a randomized controlled quasi-experimental study to determine the effect of programmed education given to patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment on self-efficacy, adherence to treatment, symptom management and quality of life. Data were collected by face-to-face interview method with patient information collection form, General Self-Efficacy, End Stage Renal Failure (ESRD)- Compliance Scale, Dialysis Symptom Index and WHOQOL-BREF(TR). The patients in the intervention group were given training in the accompaniment of the training booklet. The control group did not receive any intervention other than the routine of the unit. The general self-efficacy mean score of the intervention group before and after the education was higher than the mean score of the control group and there was a statistically significant difference when both groups were compared (p=0.016), there were two levels in terms of pre- and post-education ESRD-adherence scale dietary restriction sub-dimension scores. It was found that there was a difference between the groups (p<0.05). In the comparison of the pretest-posttest quality of life physical health score averages of both groups, the physical health status of the control group decreased more than the education group (p=0.029), when the mean scores of psychological health, social relations and environmental health were compared, the control group's psychological health, While social relations and environmental health scores decreased (mean score p=0.026, p=0.007, p=0.018, respectively), it was observed that the education group did not change. According to the results obtained in the research; 4 patients experienced low levels of symptoms, had moderate self-efficacy, ESRDadherence scale sub-dimension had high adherence to hemodialysis participation and drug use, low adherence to diet and fluid restriction, and average score of quality of life in general health, physical health, psychological health and social relations. It was determined that the mean scores of environmental health and environmental health were at a good level, and the training given to the intervention group had little positive effect on patients' self-efficacy, adherence to treatment, symptom management and quality of life.
