Abstract (EN)

Aim: The research was carried out in order to examine the effect of the five factor personality model on learned helplessness in nurses. Material and Method: The research was conducted in a cross-sectional and descriptive type between October 2022 and September 2023 with nurses working in a Training and Research Hospital in a province. No sample selection was made from the population and 392 nurses that could be reached were included in the study. The data of the research were collected by using the "Personal Information Form", the "Ten-Material Personality Scale" and the "Learned Helplessness Scale" and by giving a face-to-face questionnaire to the participants. Statistical analyzes of the data obtained from the research were made using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 23 package program. Results: It was observed that 75.3% of the nurses participating in the study were women, 59.2% were between the ages of 20-29, 78.6% were undergraduates, and 56.1% were married. The mean score of the "Learned Helplessness Scale" was calculated as 34.5± 6.96. Since the "Ten-Item Personality Scale" did not have a total score in the regression analysis, the scale was examined with its sub-dimensions and it was seen that all sub-dimensions were effective on the level of learned helplessness. A one-unit increase in the "Extraversion" sub-dimension of the "Ten-Matter Personality Scale" means a 0.439 decrease on the "Learned Helplessness" level, a one-unit increase in the "Agreeableness" sub-dimension an increase of 0.230 on the "Learned Helplessness" level, A one-unit increase in the Responsibility sub-dimension resulted in a 0.434 decrease on the "Learned Helplessness" level, a one-unit increase in the "Emotional Stability" sub-dimension an increase of 0.439 on the "Learned Helplessness" level, and a one-unit increase in the "Openness to Experience" sub-dimension. It creates a 0.383 decrease on the "Learned Helplessness" level. Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was concluded that the personality traits of the nurses were effective on the levels of learned helplessness. It is recommended to know the effects of nurses' personality traits on their learned helplessness levels and to provide in-service training to strengthen nurses' coping strategies
