Investigation of nurses' individual and professional autonomy.

This research is to determine how they perceive the leel of nurses' personel and proffessional autonomy and nurses conducted as a descriptive study in order to examine the factors tat affect autonomy. It has been carried out with nurses working at İzmir Bozyaka Training and Research Hospital. Data were collected from nurses who agreed participate in research (N= 214). Fort his study, in order to collet data Individual Questionnaire, Sociotropy- Autonomy Scale and Nursing Activity Scale were used in the third form. In the first part, based on the literature contains 7 questions for nurses factors thought to influence autonomy "Individual Questionnaire" are available. "Individual Questionnaire" nurses' age, marital status, education level, years of employment, work status before another institution, proffessional positions and operating mode included. In the second part, the original name "Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale (SAS)," the 60-item "Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale (SAS)" was used. In the third chapter, to determine the level of nurses' professional autonomy Nursing Activity Scale consisting of 30 items was used. The independend variables are age, marital status, educational level, years of employment, work status before another institution, proffessional positions and operating mode included. The evaluation of data has been held on computer by using SPSS version 16.0, as statistical method; Number and Percentage Distributions, Point Average, Spearman's, Kolmogorow-Smirnov, Kruskal Wallis, Mann- Whitney U were applied. At the end of study, average subscale points of the Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale 64.43 ± 15.72, sociotropy subscale points of the Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale 81.31 ± 14.41, the average score for the Nursing Activity Scale 2.72 ± 0.88 has been determined. The correlation between marital status, age and sociotropy is statictically significant (p<0.05). Accordingly; marital status and age that effect sociotropy level. The correlation between educational status, years of employment, before working condition at another institution, professional position, operating mode and sociotropy is statictically insignificant (p>0.05). According to the evaluation of the sociotropy subscale the nurses participated in study have mid-level autonomy. The correlation between age, marital status, educational status, years of employment, before working condition at another institution, professional position, operating mode and autonomy is statictically insignificant (p>0.05). Sepearetely Freedom and Solitude Points between years of employment statictically significant (p<0.05). According to the evaluation of the autonomy subscale the nurses participated in study have slightly above mid-level autonomy. The correlation between marital status, age, years of employment, before working condition at another institution, professional position, operating mode and Nursing Activity Scale is statictically insignificant (p>0.05). The correlation between educational status Nursing Activity Scale is statictically significant (p<0.05). At the end of study; the Nursing Activity Scale of nurses participated in study (N=214) has been determined 176.15 as the average scale score.
