Determination of the relationship between descriptive characteristics and internet usage characteristics of the nurses with internet addiction levels

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between demografic characteristics and internet usage characteristics of the nurses with their internet addiction levels. Material-Metod: This study was realized design type in correlational and descriptive. The sample of the study consists of 105 nurses who work in a education and training hospital in İstanbul and voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected from between 24 July-2 Agust 2019 in consultation with nurses at hospital. Data collection ınstruments used ın the research are Individual Informatıon Form which consists of the nurses descriptive and internet usage characteristics and Internet Addıctıon Scale whose sub-groups were loss of control, request to stay online, negativity in scoial relationship. Data were analyzed with percentage, Spearman Correlation Analysis, Kruskall Wallis and Mann WhitneyU test. Results: According to the results of the research; %77,1 of nurses were female, %76,2 of single, %85,7 of nurses were the ages of 20-29 and %65,7 of them were undergraduated level. The nurses average internet usage duration were 65,36±57,628 min and %62,9 of nurses were used internet less then 10 hours in a week. The total score of ınternet addıction scale was 33,09±13,17. Nurses who used internet for an average of 21 hours or more per week have higher total scores. Conclusion: In this study; the level of internet addiction in nurses was not related to their age, marital status, gender and education levels but ıt was related to duration of ınternet usage at once time and average usage ın a week.
