Evaluation of the knowledge level of nursing students about infection control measures

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge levels of nursing students about infection control measures and to determine the factors affecting their knowledge levels. Material and Method: The sample of the study consists of 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students (n=149) who are studying at Demiroğlu Bilim University Florence Nightingale Hospital Nursing Department, taking courses on infection control measures and agreeing to participate in the research. Based on the literature, the Student Information Form, which includes questions about the socio-demographic characteristics of the students in the first part and questions about infection control measures (35 questions) in the second part, was used as a data collection tool in the research. In the study, firstly, analyzes of the distribution of socio-demographic characteristics of nursing students were carried out. Then, descriptive analyzes were conducted regarding the knowledge level variable for standard precautions in the prevention of infectious diseases. Findings: In line with the analyzes made, it was seen that the knowledge level of nursing students was close to the average. At the same time, it was concluded that the level of knowledge of the students who received education on infectious diseases was significantly higher than those who did not, and that the level of knowledge of the students increased with the increase in their perception of academic success. Result: The findings obtained from the research were discussed in line with the findings of the literature and some suggestions were given.
