Abstract (EN)

Purpose: Evaluation of the effects of hydroxychloroquine on retina of patients with hydroxychloroquine medication. Methods: This is a retrospective, clinical, interdisciplinary, single-center study of patients consulted and admitted to the Ophthalmology Clinic of Gaziantep University Medical Faculty between January 2018 and August 2019 for control purposes. In the same period of time, volunteers who were referred to the hospital for control and who did not have any systemic diseases were selected as the control group. Those who use the drug less than 1 year later; group 1, Between 1 year and 5 year users; group 2, 5 year and more users; group 3 and control group; group 4 was subdivided into subgroups. All patients underwent detailed ophthalmologic examination and measurement of central foveal thickneess (CFT) using spectral domain optic coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Results: As a combination of study and control groups of the patients, 60 eyes which belong to 60 patients in total are analyzed in this thesis. Pairwise comparisons between groups in both study and control groups and subgroups; Central Foveal Thickness (CFT) values were not significantly different between the risk groups based on age, weight, daily drug use dose, duration of use and cumulative drug use dose. (p >0.05). Conclusion: Central foveal thickness alone is not sufficient to detect hydroxychloroquine retinopathy in patients with hydroxychloroquine medication.
