Abstract (EN)
The aim of this descriptor and cross-sectional study was to examine the compliance to treatment and factors affecting the treatment in the patients with hypertension. The study was conducted in Batman State Hospital between 1 July and 31 September 2016. Two hundred and eighty-five patients, who were admitted to the hospital for treatment or check-up, were included in the study. The Socio-demographic Form, Revised-Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R), and Hill Bone Hypertension Treatment Compliance Scale (HBHTCS) were used to collect data. The written permission was obtained from ethical committee and the General Secretary of Public Hospital Associations in Batman, and informed consent were obtained from the patients. Of the patients, 84.6% were aged >50 years and 56.1% were women. The body mass index (BMI) was ≥25 in 65.9% of them. A positive significant relationship was observed in the correlation of IPS scores with age in terms of sub-dimension scores of personal and treatment controls (p<0,05). According to the controlled variables of HBHTCS, a significant difference was determined between the total scores (p<0,05). In conclusion, a significant correlation was observed between the age, educational background, drug usage and the frequency of measuring blood pressure in accordance with HBHTCS in the patients with hypertension. There was a strong negative correlation between HBHTCS and IPQ-R. It was recommended to develop the appropriate nursing interventions to improve patient compliance by considering the factors affecting the treatment.
