Abstract (EN)

The aim of the research is to determine how Christian and Muslim children conceive of God and to compare the mentioned conceptions. It also aims to determine the possible effects of both internal and external factors, such as the religious beliefs adopted by children and their current cognitive structures, on the imagination process. It is important to determine children's conceptions of God and analyze the factors that are effective in this process, and then to reflect the obtained data into their educational processes and social lives. The meanings that children attach when imagining God are unique to them. Therefore, understanding the imagination process is necessary in getting to know individuals. In the research, the God images of Christian/Assyrian and Muslim/Sunni children between the ages of 6-11 living in Şırnak province have been discussed. The study has conducted within the framework of qualitative research, with 10 semi-structured open-ended questions using the interview technique. The findings obtained have categorized and interpreted with descriptive analysis. While interpreting the findings, the thoughts of researchers who study the concept of God on the subject have mentioned where necessary. When the results obtained from the research have evaluated, it has observed that individuals belonging to both religions had an anthropomorphic understanding of God. Reflections of the qualities have attributed to God by the religion they believe in were seen in the children's imaginations. On the other hand, children's cognitive structures have also effective in the imagination process. Considering the responses of children in both groups, the formation of their imaginations cannot be explained by a single reason. The different manifestations of internal and external factors on children have caused each participant to create his or her own image of God.
