Abstract (EN)

Communication is one of the most important roles in the socialization process of people. Thanks to communication, people have the opportunity to express themselves and understand the people around them. The most effective, easily reached and frequently used element of communication is conversation. Conversation not only includes communicational elements, but also provides access to information that addresses different fields of science, like natural sciences, health sciences, and social sciences. Since 1980s, conversation has become one of the main subject areas of sociolinguistics, which evaluates relations between languages. In numerous studies of sociolinguistics, conversation is used as a research topic and also as a data collection tool. When researches related to conversation are examined, it is seen that one of the topics that kept its popularity from the 80s to the present is the studies of conversation analysis. Conversation analysis studies are the starting point of this study. This study, which is based on conversation analysis studies developed by researchers who work in different scientific fields at different times, focuses on conversational dominance analysis developed by Hiroko Itakura and explains with examples. The aim of this study is to introduce the principles of conversational dominance analysis, classification, its data collection and evaluation processes. In addition, this study aims to present new research areas to researchers working in the field of sociolinguistics.
