An analytical study over conceptualization methods in interior space

In this dissertation study the concepts used in interior design and the phases they have gone through have been analyzed. Before stating the importance of the concepts for the interior architects, the lexical and functional difference of the terms used frequently in the interior design have been accentuated. Once the chaos concerning this issue has been solved the relationship between concepts and creativity in terms of design has been indicated. The approach of the designer to the problem changes in accordance with the way of thinking of the concepts. In the chapter where the source of the concept data existing throughout the interior design process have been studied, merely the source of the data depending on the interior architecture and the user has been discussed. How the data belonging to the emerging concept becomes externalized with the process that the mind of the interior architect has gone through has been observed based on literature screening. These interdependent mental and physical processes are shaped in the interior with different approaches. Those approaches that vary from one designer to another are the indicators of the process and result of the interior design and the user is more implicated in this process. The conceptualization of the interior is conducted with rather verbal and visual expressions independently from the physical development. The designer performing the conceptualization gets into a verbal contact with the user in this process. The extent of the aforementioned contact is not only verbal but also visual expressions are significative for the approach to come up with a solution to the design problem. Sketches and models are the phases that the visual contact goes through in the process of conceptualization. The selection of certain concepts dependent upon the interior architect and user among the infinite data can make the interior more understandable. The identity of the place may not only be the profile of the user but also the general philosophy of life of the architect. The designer includes different ways of thinking during the process of conceptualization. This case may give way to the creation of the designer's own style approach and be easily noticeable and outstanding among other designs.
