The effect of resources and skills of exporting businesses on export performance: A research on TRB1 region

In the globalizing world economies, export is increasing its importance day by day. In order to continue their lives, businesses go out of local markets and evaluate opportunities in other country markets. In a period when exports are so important for companies, businesses need to identify the factors that increase their export performance. In this process, it will be advantageous for companies to focus on intangible resources and inimitable talents that provide competitive advantage within the framework of a resource-based perspective. According to the resource-based approach, it is critically important for businesses to use their own resources and abilities, to have imitation power resources and talented workforce, and to be able to use them in line with their goals in order to achieve a superior performance. While this situation brings along talent wars, it also necessitates effective management of talents. In this study, the concept of export is explained, respectively, and the factors affecting the business performance with the resources and capabilities of the business are discussed. The aim of the study is to examine the effect of the resources and capabilities of exporting enterprises in the TRB1 region on export performance. TRB1 region (Malatya, Elazig, Bingol, Tunceli) is one of the least exporting regions in our country and the exporting enterprises are generally micro and small scale enterprises. In order to test the hypotheses put forward in the research, survey data were collected by reaching 112 of 197 exporting enterprises operating in the TRB1 region. The rate of participation in the survey was determined as 57%. The collected data were analyzed in the SPSS 23.0 package program. With the data obtained; confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, normality test, correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed. In the results of the research, important findings have been reached in terms of contribution to the literature and it has been concluded that the resources and capabilities of the exporting enterprises have an effect on the export performance.
