Abstract (EN)
In this study, the visuals in the primary school 1st grade life science textbook were examined in terms of root values (Justice, friendship, honesty, love, respect, patience, responsibility, self-control, patriotism, helpfulness) and the views of academicians were examined. Basic qualitative research method is used in the study. After interpretation by the researcher, academicians from various universities in Turkey were asked to interpret the images and the documents obtained from the comments were analyzed by document analysis. 16 visuals were selected, which were considered appropriate to be analyzed in terms of root values in the 1st grade life science textbook. Using 16 selected images, a semi-structured questionnaire form including Feldman's art criticism, pedagogical criticism, and stages was filled in first by the person conducting the study and then by field experts working in different universities in Turkey and data were collected. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the data. According to the data obtained within the scope of the research, the reflections, frequency of use and adequacy of 10 root values determined by the turkish education board in the life science textbook were determined in line with the answers given to the questionnaire. As a result of the research, the most common root value in the life studies 1st grade textbook is love, respect and responsibility. It has been concluded that the least used values in the textbook are honesty, justice and patience root values. It was concluded that the most successful root value in terms of the adequacy of the reflection of the root values on the visuals is the root value of benevolence and honesty. In line with the findings, it has been suggested to give more place to the values of honesty, justice and patience while preparing the 1st grade life science textbook. Key Words: Values education, root value, life science, Feldman art criticism (pedagogical criticism).
