Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to determine whether a relationship between written expression skill levels and academic success in Turkish lessons of elementary education students at fourth and fifth classes is present. This research consists of 5 divisions including introduction, hypothetical explanations and related researches, methods, results and conclusions.This research is a descriptive correlational surveillance study. The study group consists of 5 randomly selected state elementary schools in Yüreğir and Seyhan County of Adana Province during 2007-2008 academic year, and two branches of fourth and fifth classes of them. We reached 759 fourth class students, 764 fifth class students, totally 1523 students who have been educated at 40 classes of 10 elementary schools during the study. Furthermore, 20 class teachers of fourth and fifth classes who were working in each emphasized elementary school were reached.Data were collected at three phases. At first phase, ?Written Expression Success Tests? which was prepared by researcher distinctly for fourth and fifth classes were used. At second phase, written expression practices (essay) were written by students. Written expression practices were evaluated by a specialist and researcher. At third and the last phase, final points of subjects at Turkish lessons were obtained from school administrations.The obtained points of success tests, written expression practices and final points of Turkish lessons were evaluated by SPSS computer programme. The relationship between the written expression skills and the academic success in Turkish lessons of students were analyzed by correlation analysis.According to the results, a significant positive relationship between written expression skill levels and academic success in Turkish lessons of elementary education students at fourth and fifth classes was detected.
