Views of children on the juvenile books

Juvenile books are literary products consisting texts that meet children?s interest and need, support the development of mental, emotional and pyschological development of children and above all they read in a fun. Children meet their need that they don?t meet in their school and environment. By this way, they not only develop their personality in a positive way, but also they grow up as useful individuals to the society. But, juvenile literature products in other words well-qualified juvenile books that are written appropriate to the reality of children and level of children are necessary to get it properly.This research aims to determine the views of children on the juvenile books. In order to reach the aim, necessary data was supplied with ? The Questionnaire for Determining the Views of Children on the Juvenile Books?. The operation and statistical analysis of the collected quantitative data were made using SPSS package program while the analysis of qualitative data are made using descriptive analysis technique.At the end of the research, it is found that elementary school students prefer story books, fairy tales and funnies more as well as books on adventure, humor and heroism and elementary school students have reading habits at a great rate. It is also found that in respect to the outer space of books pupils think in a positive way about the dimensions, paper size and sentence type while they do not think so much positively about the cover, volume, the quality of their papers, pictures and lettering. It is evaluated that in respect to the content of books pupils think positively about the subject, main idea, fiction, language and expression; while they do not think so much positively about the connection of the subjects of the books with real life, their involving subjects of violence; slangs; words, idioms and proverbs that their meaning are not known; the connection between hereos and real life; the features similar to the ones of children and uncessary details between events. Furthermore, in this research, students state their various views and suggestions on the necessary features of juvenile books.
