Analysing the technology readiness level of primary school teachers

This study aims to analyse Technology Readiness (TR) level of primary school teachers and evaluate their TR levels in terms of some demographic variables. Sample of the study was 207 teachers who were in the primary school center of Şahinbey and Şehitkamil districts. Data was gathered by using Technology Readiness Index (TRI) survey. The survey has four dimensions; innovativeness, optimism, insecurity and discomfort. Based on participants? TRI dimensions score, each participant is classified into five TRI segments; explorers, pioneers, skeptics, paranoids and laggards. In the data analysing process, some statistical tools such as Independent-samples t-Test, One-way Anova and Cluster Analysis were used. The first finding of the study was that participant teachers? optimism, discomfort and insecurity levels were high. Also their innovativeness was moderate level. Generally, the study revealed that the teachers? TR level was moderate. The another finding was that male participants were more innovative and optimist than their female colleagues to embrace to use new technologies. In terms of the distribution of teacher for TR segments, the majority of explorers was male teachers under the age of 30. Pioneers group, mainly between the ages of 31-44 were male teachers. Majority of participants in early-adopter groups was males under the age of 44. Female and male teachers have almost the same distribution in skeptics. Predominant participant groups in paranoids and laggards segments were females in different age groups. For all age groups, the intensity of female percentage was more than the male percentage in the late-adopter groups. In the light of the findings and limitations, some recommendations were made.
