The relationship between charismatic leadership and organizational culture in primary schools

This research aims to determine the views of primary school teachers on the relationship between charismatic leadership and organizational culture, and whether these views create a significant difference according to organizational level, gender, marital status, age, education level, and seniority variables. The population of the study consists of primary school teachers working in central districts of Diyarbakır during the 2023-2024 academic year. There are a total of 215 primary schools in the center of Diyarbakır, and the total number of primary school teachers in these schools is 3032. A sample of 43 schools was selected from these schools, and data were collected from 372 teachers. Two different scales were used in the study. The first scale is the charismatic leadership scale, originally developed by Conger and Kanungo, consisting of 24 items. The second scale is an organizational culture scale originally developed by Deshpande, Cameron, Freeman, and Quinn, which consists of 33 items. This research examined the relationship between charismatic leadership and organizational culture. The results showed that both factors were moderately high. Gender, marital status, age, education level, and seniority variables did not have a significant effect on charismatic leadership and organizational culture. However, significant differences were found in organizational culture between age groups. Additionally, a strong positive relationship between charismatic leadership and organizational culture was observed. This highlights the important role that leaders play in strengthening school culture. The study demonstrates how the vision and personality of leaders can influence the values, norms, and general ways of doing business within the organization. Moreover, it shows that charismatic leaders can play a critical role in the success and change processes of organizations, which enables the creation of more efficient and sustainable organizations.
