The effect of creative drama applications on various variables in primary school 3rd grade science course

This research aims to examine the effects of creative drama applications on the attitudes, motivation, and academic achievements of 3rd-grade primary school students towards science lessons. The study encompasses a sample group of 90 students attending four primary schools in the central district of Burdur during the 2022-2023 academic year. The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental design, with experimental and control groups established, adopting a pretest-posttest control group design. The experimental group consisted of 52 students, while the control group included 38 students. Data collection tools included the "Achievement Test for the Subject Area of Living Beings and Life," the "Science Course Attitude Scale," and the "Motivation Scale for Learning Science." These scales are validated and reliable tools previously tested in the literature. According to the findings of the study, there was no statistically significant difference in academic achievement and attitudes between the experimental and control groups following the implementation of the creative drama intervention. However, a significant difference in motivation was found in favor of the experimental group. When examining the internal changes within each group, it was observed that the academic achievement of both groups showed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores, favoring the post-test. For attitudes and motivation, significant differences in favor of the post-test were found within the experimental group, whereas no statistically significant differences were observed in the control group. This research presents important findings regarding the contributions of innovative teaching methods to educational processes.
