Examining the mathematics anxiety of primary school 4th grade students and their parents

This research aims to investigate the math anxiety of parents and students in relation to gender and math achievement. In this research, a quantitative research approach using a survey-based scanning model was employed. The research sample consists of 198 fourth-grade students attending various primary schools in Bingöl during the second semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, along with their parents. These students were selected using a convenience sampling method and on a voluntary basis. Research utilized several tools and statistical methods for data collection and analysis; Parent's Math Anxiety Scale (Reformed by Mutlu et al 2018), Math Anxiety Scale (Reformed by Mutlu and Söylemez, 2018), Math Success Test (Reformed by Dölek, 2022). The Statistical methods used are Descriptive Statistics, Unpaired t-Test, One-Way ANOVA Test for group comparisons that are more than two, and Scheffe Test of Post-Hoc for determining groups which have significant difference. The results obtained from this research are :  The research indicates that the anxiety level of the fourth-grade students about math is high.  There is no significant difference in math anxiety levels between male and female students.  Students are highly successful in math.  There is no significant difference in Math success between male and female students  There is a significant difference in student math anxiety levels based on their success in math.  Parents of the fourth-grade students have a low level of anxiety about math.  Similar to the students, there is no significant difference in parental math anxiety levels between different genders among the parents of these fourth-grade students.  Parental math anxiety levels differ significantly based on the success of their children in math.
