Examination of 4th grade primary school students' emphatic tendency levels and their ability to say ''no'' in terms of various variables

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine 4th grade students' empathic levels and examination of guilt-free skills of saying "no". This study which is figurative is done using general scanning model. 225524 4th grade students who being educated in central district of Diyarbakır compose this research's universe. 418 primative school students who is chosen by sampling method are compose the sample of the research. As data collection tool "Personal İnformation Form", "Empathic Levels Scale" and "Saying No Skills" are used. The data which is resulted by research is analyzed via SPSS pocket programme. For Unrelated Samples T test, one-way analysis of variance,Kruskal Wallis-H test Scheffe Test, Mann Whitney U Test and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation are used. Additionally in order to determine The level of independent variables predicting the dependent variables, Multiple Linear Regression Analysis is used. According to the findings of the research It was observed that, there was no significant difference between the emphatic tendencies of 4th grade primary students in terms of gender, mother's occupation, number of siblings, sibling rank, socioeconomic statues, living together and father's education level but there was a significant difference in father's and mother's education levels. It was also observed that, there was no significant difference between the students' ability to say ''no'' in terms of gender, mother's occupation and living together but, there was a significant difference according to number of siblings, sibling rank, father's occupation, socioeconomic status, father's and mother's education levels. It was observed that there was a relationship between the cognitive empathy dimension of the students and the dimension of rejection and resistance. Also there was a relationship between the students' emotional empathy dimensions and rejection dimension. No relationship was found between emotional empathy and resistance dimensions. A relationship between dimensions of rejection and resistance was observed. It can be seen that rejection dimension of students' skills positively predicts the cognitive and emotional empathy dimensions. Cognitive empathy and emotional empathy dimensions, which are among the empathic tendency levels of students, explains %13 of rejection dimension, which is one of their ability to say ''no''. On the other hand, it is seen that dimension of resistance among students' skills does not significantly predict cognitive empathy and emotional empathy dimensions. Based on limitedness and results of the research suggestions were presented to researchers and operators. Key Words: Emphatic Tendency, Ability to Say ''No'', Primary School Students
