Abstract (EN)
The rise of urbanization and fast-paced lifestyles has led to a growing disconnection between people and the natural environment. This separation has increased stress, reduced comfort, and well-being in the built environment. In this context, coffee shops emerge as an important place, as many social researchers have emphasized the significance of "third places", those spaces that are separate from home as the first place and work as the second place, they are frequently utilised as places to study, work, and socialise. However, it reflects the broader disconnection from nature by relying on artificial lighting, synthetic materials, and small layouts. Biophilic Design offers a promising solution to this issue and has increasingly become a prominent approach in architecture and interior design. It seeks to promote psychological well-being and improve the general standard of the constructed surroundings, especially indoor spaces like coffee shop settings. This study aims to analyze biophilic design's impact on customer behavior and evaluate how biophilic design affects customers' comfort and well-being, focusing on the case study of Cup of Joy Nişantaşı in Istanbul, Turkey. The study achieved these objectives by utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods such as evaluation of biophilic design patterns, behavioral mapping, observations, and interviews conducted in the selected coffee shop.
