The Methods and Techniques Used by English Teachers in Teaching Grammar Subjects in Their Classes: The Case of Fethiye District

"Methods and Techniques Used by English Teachers in Teaching Grammar Subjects in Their Lessons: Fethiye District Example" The aim of this study is to determine what methods and techniques English teachers use in grammar subjects and lessons, what they pay attention to when using methods and techniques, and what are the reasons why they do not consider themselves competent when using methods and techniques. Limited and predetermined books' units and grammar subject selections will be made in order to determine which methods and techniques the teachers use to teach grammar topics. The participant group of this study consists of 30 English teachers working in the Fethiye District of Muğla Province in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year who agreed to participate in the study voluntarily. Some of these participated answered the questions via internet. "Single case design" was used to evaluate the opinions of English teachers about the methods and techniques they use in teaching grammar subjects. Since the opinions of 30 teachers with different lives and experiences were considered as a unit of analysis, the "nested single case design" was applied. The interview questions are prepared by the researcher, and all information of the participants will be kept confidential and evaluated, and it is aimed to conduct an informative study among other educators. VII The views of the English teachers in Fethiye District is taken as a basis. One of the main reasons why it is Fethiye is that the number of public and private schools is close to each other, which will balance the number of participants. As a result, teachers consider the eclectic approach among the most frequently used methods in teaching grammar. Communicative language teaching (CLT) is a popular method for teachers, but there are some challenges regarding its applicability and curriculum. Teachers state that current textbooks and curriculum are inadequate, especially in terms of teaching grammar. Teachers stated that they need to use additional resources and creative methods to eliminate these deficiencies. English grammar topics are covered excessively and this situation increases the difficulties students face in the language learning process. The study emphasized that English course hours are not sufficient and more times are needed to achieve the necessary gains.
