A research on the evaluation of factors affecting construction quality

In recent years, the concept of quality, which has rapidly entered into all areas of our lives, has taken its place in the construction sector and has become one of the most important criteria of a construction projects. When starting a project, construction companies set out to complete the structure in the shortest time, at the lowest cost and with the highest quality. Today when quality is so important , various attempts have been made by different sources to determine critical quality factors. In this study, a comprehensive literature review was conducted to determine the factors determining quality in the construction sector and to determine the quality problems experienced in the applications. In order to develop suggestions to solve the problems that cause poor quality, firstly the factors affecting the quality in every stage of the construction applications are examined in this thesis. Then, a field study was conducted to determine the situation in Adana. A survey form was prepared in accordance with the data of the litrature survey conducted within this research and interviews were made with the predetermined construction companies to implement this survey form. As a result of the evaluation of the questionnaire forms, it was found that the construction companies in Adana did not apply quality management systems in the project design and implementation processes of the building. Design process factors, production process factors and financal factors, which are the three main factors determined within the scope of this thesis, have a very important place in ensuring quality. According to the data obtained; the factor that has the most impact on quality in the design process is the lack of consideration of the needs based on the user profile, while the lack of qualified and trained labor in the production process. The most important financial factor affecting quality is the fluctuations in the national economy.
