Abstract (EN)

The modality-metaphysics relationship has been one of the most important studied issues in the history of thought since the early period, and it still maintains its importance today. İsmail Gelenbevî, one of the prominent names among the late Ottoman scholars, wrote many works on both logic and metaphysics and was followed and studied by his contemporaries and the scholars who came after him. Gelenbevî, who also wrote a work called Risâtu Miftâhî bâbi'l-müveccehât on modality, also made a serious contribution to modality discussions with his logic book called Burhân fi ilmi'l-mîzân and many short risâlahs. This thesis aims to show how modality is founded on the logic modality and to examine the arbitrariness of the moving from modality to metaphysics. With the mentioned transition, the intention is not to show the effect of modality in practical examples, but rather to establish the theoretical ground of the aforementioned relationship. In other words, in this thesis, no specific metaphysical issue will be investigated on a modal basis, but how metaphysics constructs on a modal basis will be explored. To provide the reliability of this construction, I will focus on the construction of modality without any principle proved in metaphysics and how the logic's construction completed before metaphysics as a science. İn the second part, in addition, I will examine in detail the five universals in order to examine the ground on which the modality emerges as I will show in the example of Gelenbevî that a metaphysics is not possible without the construction of the modality.
