The concept of the museum, which started from ancient Greece and merged with ideas of collecting, accumulating and bringing together, is in a constant historical change. In the present sense, the first example of museum idea emerged in Europe during the Renaissance Period. The Ottoman Empire initiated the history of Turkish museology in Istanbul and the understanding of museology changed with the declaration of the Republic and developed to daylight. Contemporary museum understanding and exhibition of museum science, the exhibition spaces and types have been studied and the museums that can communicate with the visitors have been designed and developed. The lack of kind knowledge of the museums in Istanbul and the large differences in the classifications caused a need for a new method. In this study, a hundred museum samples were identified in Istanbul and examined on site. While examining these examples, the history, type, architectural and facade features of the museums and the places and types of exhibition were investigated. At the same time, a voucher for each museum was arranged and presented in addition. As a result, the general and architectural characteristics of the museums in Istanbul were examined in detail and the distribution ratio of museum types was calculated.
