Abstract (EN)

The Burmali Mescid cemetery which is located near the Sehzade Mosque in Fatih district of Istanbul has been examined. The study consists of three parts. The first part is the introduction in which the subject and the purpose and the scope as well as the research method and sources have been explained. İn the second part, the concept of graves in İslam, graves and gravestones in Turks are emphasized. İn addition, the Burmali Masjid and life of it's founder, Emîn Nûreddin Osman Efendi, are mentioned. Also the information on the province and the district where the burial is located is given. İn the third part, the catalog study of the cemetery is conducted. İn the post restoration study, 231 graves have been identified. İn the fourth section the graves in the cemetery have been evaluated in terms of forms, decorations and writings. At the end of the research, the social, cultural, religious and artistic aspects of the age of the cemetery have been discussed and it's importance in the ottoman tombstones has been determined.
