The theory of khaber according to Qadi 'Abd al-jabbar

One of the most important knowledge source of Islamic thuoght is "khabar". The Qur'an, Sunnah of the Prophet and the icmâ are included in this category. Beginning from the first period of İslamic thouth, scholars were interested in "khabar" issue. One of the schollars who put forward an independent theory in this field is Qadi ʿAbd al-Jabbar. In our study, we discussed in detail the "khabar theory" which was developed by Qadi ʿAbd al-Jabbar. We discussed the coherence, flexibility, applicability and originality of the "khabar theory" in the Islamic tradition. Unfortunately this issue was neglected for centuries. First of all in our research, some of the schollars who lived before and after Qadi ʿAbd al-Jabbar, especially the works of the author, were scanned. The originality of the ideas has been determined by using the comparative method. After that, we analysed the Qadi's khabar theory. Kādî has dealt with the khabar in wiev of the epistemological aspect and divided into some class. He verificated the khabar on the concept of al-ade, which has an ontological nature. He accepted the "adeh" as an act of Allah. Kādi also accepted the doxa as a human act. Qadi ʿAbd al-Jabbar tried to verificated the khabar theory on rational foundations through the psychological and social aspects of human. When dealing with narrations, Qadi does not dealth with the criticism of "isnad/base upon" and "sened / deed path". He emphasized the criticism of the text. In determining the accuracy of the "anouncement", Qadi stipulated the corresponding anouncement with reality, Qur'an, theological rules, other narratives and Arabic language features. It should be known that Qadi ʿAbd al-Jabbar has developed a consistent theory of knowledge by utilizing the knowledge that precedes himself. This theory is very important because of having rational methods. In addition, it is important to understand correctly because of its influence on Islamic sciences as well.
