A phenomenological study of women's solidarity on transgender-elderly women: The case of Ankara

As a global phenomenon, inequality affects many social groups. There are different types of these inequalities, and some social groups experience more than one type of inequality at the same time. Transgender-elderly women are a group that experience inequalities based on gender, age and class conditions at the same time, and the welfare state cannot be reached; does not develop social policy practices. In addition, they cannot effectively benefit from the existing social policy practices for the elderly people.Struggling with multiple forms of inequality and not being able to solve the problems that they face through social policy practices has created an informal solidarity among transgender-elderly women. This study focused on exploring the informal solidarity relationships of transgender-elderly women. Together with solidarity acceptance and exclusion processes, 'how, why, among whom and in which domains" those informal solidarity is developed are within the scope of this study.In this direction, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven transgender-elderly women through a semi-structured interview form. Friends and family are at the forefront in the solidarity network of transgenderelderly women. Solidarity items are generally basic needs providing continuation of life such as nutrition, clothing and sheltering. The biggest factor in the impoverishment of the participants is that they are deprived of their right to work as a result of having to work in the informal sector. In order to improve conditions, they should be informed about social policy practices, social policy practices should be accessible, social benefits should be in cash, and social benefits should be distributed equally and fairly. In addition, the regulation of working conditions by the state is an important point that will hinder the reproduction of the problem. Keywords: Solidarity, Social Policies, Transgender, Aging
