The investigation of the effect of caffeine USE on vertical JUMP and repetitive sprint performance

Abstract (EN)
Material and Methods: 17 male athletes who do sports as amateurs in different branches and train at least 5 days a week were included in the study (Age: 19.5±1.73 years, height: 181.05±6.49 cm, weight: 69.7±5.7 kg). According to the research procedure, the participants were included in the study under two different conditions within a week. In the pre-test performance measurements, the Repeated Sprint Test (RST) and the Vertical Jump Test (VJT) were applied to the athletes without caffeine consumption. On the last test day, all participants took caffeine supplement 1 hour before the measurements, and after 1 hour, RST and VJT performance measurements were made. In order to standardize the caffeine consumption, the athletes were included in the study according to their weight, with 6 mg of caffeine per kilogram. This rate is equivalent to the consumption of 400 mg caffeine capsules per person. Results: In the analysis of the obtained data, Paired Sample T Test was used for parametric comparison tests according to the normality distribution, while Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used for nonparametric comparison tests. According to the statistical results of the comparison of the obtained data, there was no significant difference in the pre-test and post-test data (p>0.05). Conclusion: As a result, it was determined that caffeine comsumption did not have an effect on repeated sprint performance and vertical jump performance, since there was no statistical difference. At this context, it has been revealed in this research that the use of caffeine in amateur athletes does not affect the performance, and consumption of caffeine before training will not provide any benefit.
