Abstract (EN)
The functions of the media and cartoons, which have a significant impact on children, include: teaching, entertaining, educating while entertaining, and showing the truth. It is now known that in early childhood, development and learning are very rapid and the experiences gained from the environment leave permanent traces. In addition, life skills that help children overcome their responsibilities in daily life and which should be acquired by individuals as a result of living in society are also shaped and gained importance in this period. The transfer of these skills to children through cartoons is the subject of this examination. In this context, the aim of this study has been to examine the cartoon Captain Pengu and His Friends in terms of life skills in the preschool period. In the examination, the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group was formed by systematic sampling. The data in the ten sections in the study group were collected using the preschool "Life Skills Acquisition Form" developed by the examiner. Descriptive analysis and content analysis techniques were used in the analysis of the data of this study. The life skills examined within the scope of the study are 17 and these consist of; 'Personal Protection', 'Healthy Eating Behavior, 'Empathy', 'Respect', 'Forgiveness', 'Courage', 'Conflict Resolution', 'Happiness and Optimism', 'Happiness', 'Patience', 'Leadership', 'Responsibility', 'Social Problem Solving', 'Motivation', 'Anger Control', 'Self-Control' and 'Decision Making'. In the examined parts of the cartoon, it was determined that all of these skills were included as verbal and behavioral expressions 316 times. Among these skills, happiness and optimism with 20%, helpfulness skills with 12% and motivation and self-control skills with 9% come, respectively. In line with these findings, it has been thought that different life skills should be taken as a basis while creating the contents of the productions to be prepared for preschool children and that these skills can be gained by children through cartoons, which have a significant place among the programs that they watch the most.
