This study aims at finding out if there is a relationship betweenfamilial and personal characteristics of the teachers in the Turkish LandForces Command and their commitment level and intent to leave theorganizational.To collect data a questionnaire was used. The Scale is composed ofthree parts. In the first part, there are items to elicit answers about the familialand personal characteristics of the teachers in the Army; the second partincludes the Affective and Continuance Commitment Scale developed byMeyer, P.J & Allen, J.N.; the third part is composed of the Intent to LeaveOrganizational Scale developed by the researcher himself.The validity of the scales was tested by factor analysis and theexperts. As a result of the factor analysis, it was observed that theOrganizational Commitment Scale is composed of two dimensions, affectiveand continuance commitment. The validity coefficient for affectivecommitment scale was a=0,89, for continuance commitment scale was a=0.87, for the total Organizational Commitment Scale was 0,93, and for theIntent to Leave Organizational Scale was 0,90.The questionnaire was mailed to 947 teachers in the 2005-2006academic year. 775 questionnaires were answered and sent back by theteachers. 14 of them were eliminated because of improper answers. Theanalysis was carried out by using 761 questionnaires.Data collected trough organizational commitment and intent to leavescales was evaluated by using SPSS 11.0. The organizational commitmentof the teachers in the Army and their will to intent to leave the organizationalwere calculated by arithmetic mean. The mean of every item in theorganizational commitment scale was calculated. Whether the points relatedto teachers? organizational commitment change with respect to age, gender,branch, service years, source of school, education level, work place,residence, marital status, working wives, the number of children, income wastested by variance analysis. Whether the commitment change with respect toa factor composed of two sub groups was tested by t-test, a factor composedof three and over sub groups by one way ANOVA. In case the varianceanalysis was meaningful, to find the source of the difference, TUKEY multiplecomparison test was used. In the research the level of significance was set atalpha (α=.05).As a result of the analysis, it was found that the level of affectivecommitment of the teachers in the Army was greater than continuancecommitment. It was seen that there was a significant reationship betweenteachers? age, gender, service years, residence, marital status, workingwives, the number of children, and income and affective, continuance,organizational commitment. No significant difference was observed withrespect to their branch, schools they got their degree, education level, andwork palace. In addition, it was found that there was a high negativecorrelation between their organizational commitment and will to intent to leavethe organizational (r= -,847, p<0,05).
