Development and functional change of farm settlements in Karatas (Adana) district

In this thesis, farm settlements, which have important cultural and environmental impacts in addition to their economic function, and the changes in these settlements are analyzed. Although farm settlements have been examined conceptually in various articles and thesis studies, they have not been analyzed much in terms of content. not examined. For this reason, it is known that farm settlements have an important place and are even the subject of books and series. In this thesis, sample farms from Karataş district of Adana province were selected as the subject and the information obtained as a result of field visits and interviews with farm owners were interpreted. Adana has been a province where the origins of farm settlements date back to ancient times due to its fertile soils, favorable climatic conditions and abundant water resources. Some of these farms have been handed down from generation to generation and have made great contributions to the local economy as well as the regional and national economy. Although the number of farms has decreased since the 1980s, with many of them turning into neighborhoods after the 1980s, farm settlements still maintain their importance, especially in terms of economy. As a result of the observations and interviews, the increase in fertilizer prices, the decrease in product efficiency due to the increase in fertilizer prices, the change in product varieties, the climate change causing similar problems, and most importantly, the new generation not wanting to be interested in agriculture are the main issues that farm owners are uncomfortable with. In this thesis, solutions to these problems are proposed. Government support for price increases, preference for sustainable agricultural methods to reduce the negative effects of climate change It has been emphasized that it is possible to attract the interest of the new generation by giving place to agricultural tourism, to create the necessary investment in new agricultural technologies and thus increase the efficiency in agriculture, and to work on environmentally friendly agricultural practices. In conclusion, it is emphasized that farm settlements are still important today, and that necessary investments and It is thought that its contribution to the economy, social and cultural developments can be greater by solving the existing problems.
