The relationship between career satisfaction and work engagement: A research on public employees in Manisa province

The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between career satisfaction and work engagement levels of public employees employed in Manisa. For this purpose, the research was carried out on a sample of 334 people using the questionnaire technique. The questionnaire used in the research consists of two scales and the questions prepared to determine the demographic structure of the sample. In the study, correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed to determine the relationship between career satisfaction and work engagement and its sub-dimensions. The Utrecht work engagement scale, developed by Schaufeli et al. (2002) and translated into Turkish by Turgut (2011), was used in the study to measure individuals' work engagement. To measure career satisfaction, Greenhaus et al. (1990) career satisfaction scale was used. The results obtained from the validity and reliability analyzes of both scales were statistically appropriate. The outcome of the research demonstrates that there is a positive relationship between career satisfaction and work engagement and its subdimensions. Another important finding is that career satisfaction is a significant variable in determining the individual's work engagement level. Accordingly, the results of the research statistically prove that the level of satisfaction with the career of the individual is also effective in the level of work engagement.
