Navajo weaving detected in sources

It is known that human beings have left some cultural traces in the regions where they have lived throughout history. When many cultural factors are taken into account in order to get to know a society, the reflections of traditional handicraft products belonging to that society appear. The area where the Indians, known as the Native Americans, who are the subject of the research, live, is called the Navajo reservation area. There are many handicraft products belonging to the reflections of their own cultural values in the reservation areas. When the products that reflect their traditional arts are examined, it is possible to talk about a transfer of knowledge between tribes from generation to generation. Basket knitting, sand painting, beadwork, bags, shoes, weaving, etc., which are among the art products of the Indians. There are many products such as The weaving arts, which are known as an important branch of the handicrafts of the Indians, are discussed in the research. Weaving plays an important role in reflecting the traditional values of the society throughout history. When the Indian weavings are examined, the reflections of the seasonal and regional differences appear in the reservation area they live in. It is aimed to examine the Indians' regional styles in weaving products, taking into account many elements such as color, composition, motif, symbol, symbol and pattern. It has been determined that there are 67 weaving regions determined on the map of the Navajo reservation area in the thesis. As a result of the information and findings obtained in the sources that can be accessed within these areas, nearly 1500 images belonging to 44 regions were scanned. Since the variety in woven products is quite high, a maximum of 11 samples was limited to the visuals of each region. Information on Native American woven product images identified in the sources are indicated in the table. At the same time, Assoc. Unpublished archive images are used, taking into account the information and findings obtained by Dr Mehmet Ali Eroğlu as a result of field research in the Navajo reservation area in the USA in 2015. In the oral interviews with Eroğlu in 2021, the information obtained on Native American weavings is used together with unpublished archive visual samples. When the literature review about the Indians on 18.09.2020 in Turkey is examined, there are 8 thesis studies that emerged depending on the "Yök Thesis Center". While there is a lot of information about the Indians' own cultures, habitats, mythological events and shamanic beliefs in these studies, it is seen that there is limited information about the handicrafts and weavings of the Navajo culture. However, it is seen in the literature review that the art of weaving covers a very wide area and there are many products. Considering this lack of resources, the scope of this thesis includes the examination of Navajo weavings in order to complete this deficiency in the literature. In research, articles, journals, papers, oral interviews, etc. In addition to Turkish sources, about 28 sources that provide information about the Indians' weaving are used in the thesis by specifying the references and citations, after the Turkish translation of the ones determined in accordance with the subject were made.
