Abstract (EN)
Urban transformation is building functional and agricultural structures, taking into consideration cities' needs, development and other factors, instead of the ones that is old, wear off and lost their functional usage. Sur içi is valuable and it is the first settlement region of Diyarbakır. Many years İt has been cradle of civilization in terms of Trade and transportation. Once, used as a trade center, this situation has been so effective for urban development. Sur içi urban construction has effected region culture of Mesopotamia, Anatolia and development of D.bakir because of location, it has a complex city form. The City covered with City walls and has been brought settlement form by protecting it. Although rapid urban transformation had begun in the World after second world War and industrial revolution, and in Turkey at 1950s, in Diyarbakır, it began after the 1980 s. In the process of rapid urbanization, as the city received migration for economic reasons, the slums built by the low-income segment who came from the countryside and settled in Suriçi became structures that have disappeared from the difference with other structures with high historical values in the city, and have become structures used by the same segment for the same function. At the same time, during this process, an unplanned and irregular construction was observed in a short time in Suriçi. Thus, Diyarbakir Suriçi has entered the process of losing tissue inside. Therefore, urban design applications have been proposed for the buildings with high historical values in the fortification and it has been aimed to repair them properly and use them in accordance with their function or to give them a monumental dimension and bring them to the city in a way that may be valuable from the point of view of the city. As a result of the security incidents that have occurred in the city in recent years, many buildings have been demolished in the Suriçi urban settlement area and new structures have been proposed in their place in accordance with the historical texture and a new layout has been envisaged. This research is based on the history of Diyarbakır. In this study, it was aimed to demonstrate an approach to the urban transformation practices of the Sur District of Diyarbakir and the latest situation in the urban transformation practices of the Sur district was explained and evaluated.
