Relational analysis of urban experiences: Two different habituses in Ankara

One of the important topics of urban sociology is urban transformation and the urban adaptation processes of rural groups who move from slum neighbourhoods to housing estates with urban transformation. In this study, the urbanity experiences of the participants who used to live in a slum in Aktaş neighbourhood and then started to live in an apartment in the housing estate within the scope of TOKİ Urban Transformation projects and the participants who had no rural life experience, who were born and cultured in the city and lived in Çankaya were compared from a relational sociological perspective. Questions related to ecological consciousness, consumption habits, access to the socio-cultural opportunities of the city, practices related to the social order in the city and finally political participation and information acquisition practices were asked to 200 participants from Aktaş urban transformation area and 200 participants from Çankaya area. Multiple Correspondence Analysis was performed to compare the action sets obtained from the two regions. The positioning of the participants' characteristics of whether or not to engage in urban actions in the geometric social space in the context of the capital feature on which the presence or absence of action is based, and the areas of similarity and distinction between the two groups were searched. The aim of the research is to understand in which dimensions urbanisation and urbanity is a feature belonging to a certain class and in which dimensions it corresponds to a process, without ignoring both micro and macro dimensions by looking closely at urban spatial differentiations of the holistic and relational perspective on urbanity. According to the results, it has been observed that there are no distinctions in the urban social space in most of the action types in terms of the urbanity experiences of the participants from Aktaş and Çankaya regions. Different urbanity habituses are formed in the urban space, and the ways of experiencing the city of these habituses, which show a hybrid urbanity feature. It has been observed that the discourse of urbanity has a differentiating function constructed by the dominant urban class in the urban cultural space rather than being a class feature.
