Assessment of urban development in terms of ecological planning : A case of Kilis city under Syrian refugees' effect

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects of the Syrian refugees on the physical and socio-cultural structure of Kilis city, to determine the land using options in accordance with the ecological planning criteria and to create a basis for prudential land use planning of the city. For this purpose; first of all, potential land use types were determined of Kilis city. In the next step, criteria and sub-criteria for each type of the land use were confirmed. "Suitability Coeefficient (SC)" of the criteria were specified by using the paired comparison method within the scope of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHS). In consequence of the analysis, potential suitability maps were obtained for each type of land use and holistic potential suitability map for the entire area was prepared as a result of overlap of these maps. The next phase of the study they were identified conflictions between the potential suitability map and the existing land use and the environmental plan. As a result of the study, the potential suitability map and the questionnaire study applied to both the local population and the asylum seekers, in order to determine the effects of the Syrian refugees on the city and to ensure the adaptation process, were evaluated together and an optimal land use map was produced, and the land use options according to the ecological planning criteria were determined of the city.
