Abstract (EN)
Constructivism is an influential art movement in modern art and design history. It was developed mainly by Russian artists around 1920?s. This movement has appeared first in Russia and spread throughout Europe successively. During this period the constructivism proceeded in two different directions. First approach is named as ?productivist? which was pioneered by Vladimir Tatlin. According to this approach art has to serve public purpose and first of all it has to be functional. Second approach is developed in Europe by Naum Gabo as the leader of this constructivist idea. This constructivist idea maintains that art cannot be reduced to being functional and it is an activity in itself. In this master thesis, the role of constructivism in the shaping of the modern art in general, its specific meaning in typography will be put forward. In that sense, constructivism as an art movement will be discussed. The development of this movement in the historical continuum will be main part of this discussion. Firstly, the relation of the constructivism with previous movements will be taken up and then its relations with the movements of its period will be explained shortly. After explaining the historical period, the constructive principles and its ideas will be shown. In that sense thesis will dwell upon the forms of constructive structure and it will explain the reflection of those forms in typography with supported visual examples.
